No Arranged Marriages

You probably heard of arranged marriages in many cultures, especially in Asia. In some of these cases, their grandparents had served in the war, and during one of the conversations with their fellow soldiers, they would have come up with the idea of marrying their grandsons and granddaughters. This practice is common in a conservative society. Nonetheless, no matter the degree of prudeness one might expect of an Amish, they actually do not practice arranged marriages.

Again, the Amish are solid believers of the freedom of choice, and arranged marriages are in stark violation of that tenet. Most of the unions in the community are due to the typical process of dating and courtship. Their choices, however, are limited as they could only select someone from the Amish community as well, and going out of the group is frowned upon. Once married, they typically dream of having a large family.
