SAM ELLIOTT AND KATHARINE ROSS
The married couple’s 36-year-long partnership is a rare degree of accomplishment in the industry. Most people believe you shouldn’t work with someone you’re in a relationship with them, but these two make a compelling argument for doing it correctly.
Sam Elliott and Katharine Ross met in 1978 while filming The Legacy, but it wasn’t their first time on set together. As it turns out, Elliott appeared in the background of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid but had no parts with Ross. They never even came close to colliding! Fast forward to a few years later, and the pair honeymooned in Hawaii after marrying in 1984. It was then that Elliott learned of his breakout part in Mask as Cher’s motorcycle-riding boyfriend. The actor informed his agent that he would not be leaving his vacation with Ross early to audition for the position, but his wife and ever-supportive partner stood by him. The same night, she called Elliott’s agent and promised to get him back in time for the screen test. After all these years, the devoted couple is still going strong and reunited on screen in 2017 for The Hero.
