Don’t Put A Ring On It

Another Amish engagement and wedding tradition that most of us would probably find different is the absence of an engagement ring. That’s right! Amish couples who get engaged do not like to put a ring on it. This is because their religion prohibits them from using any type of jewelry, and that includes engagement bands.

So, what do they use to tell people they’re engaged? To simply put it, nothing. As we’ve mentioned before, they maintain a certain degree of secrecy when it comes to getting engaged and married, so using an engagement ring would just ruin all the fun. In fact, they don’t even use wedding rings when they get married. Wild, right? Well, that’s not the last of interesting Amish traditions. There’s plenty more where that came from, and you’re about to discover more in the following slides.
