Secret Engagements

For many of us, getting engaged is massive news. More often than not, people who get engaged immediately break the news to their loved ones through theatrical displays in real life or on social media. For the Amish people, however, it’s a little different. Well, completely different.

Amish couples typically keep their engagements a secret well until the big day. Yes, we know that sounds unbearable to anyone who likes to put their lives on display on the internet. However, that’s the Amish wedding culture for you. According to sources, couples in the Amish culture often get engaged during the spring season. However, they wait until the season change to summer before revealing it to the rest of their family. Once they got that out of the way, they wait until October, when typical weddings are done, to reveal to the entire community that they are married. The degree of secrecy surrounding this tradition is massive, but that’s just how they like to do things in their culture.
