Many Are Trilingual

Many in the US are monolingual, which means that they only speak one language, which is English. A large majority of the US citizens, however, speak English and another language such as Spanish and Filipino. This is because of the presence of many immigrants, who at one point contacted the moving company and transferred to the US for what they hoped would be a better future. The Amish community, however, is at, the very least, trilingual. They speak English, German, and Pennsylvania Dutch.

These three languages are used in the schools and are also used throughout the community. Visitors to their locales would hear all three languages being used in various facets of their lives, so it is always a good idea to brush up on language skills prior to visiting an Amish community. The accents and the manners of speaking can vary from one group to another, which makes things a tad complicated, but the core words are still there.
