WILLIAM ATHERTON KNIGHT
William Atherton Knight is best known for his roles in Die Hard and Ghostbusters. When Ghostbusters was released in 1984, it was an instant hit. With comedic electricity sparking among the cast and its unique plot, it reached the top of the box office in no time.
The film launched its stars to stardom, all except Knight. Knight played the film’s villain, EPA lawyer Walter Peck. The character was so disliked that after the film’s release, people still kept harassing its actor, which led to Knight’s fight with the film’s director.
MEGAN FOX
Megan Fox rose to stardom when she appeared in the first two installments of the action-robot film Transformers. However, she was later on cut out of the remaining movies after her disagreements with the film’s director, Michael Bay. She was protesting for her character to have more substance and go beyond just the sexy honeypot girlfriend of the main character.
Unfortunately, this led to Fox being shadow blacklisted in Hollywood. Her credit score suffered even more when she took a role in the critically-panned film Jonah Hex. The film earned only 12% in rotten tomatoes.
COLIN FARRELL
Colin Farrell was on the path to greatness with a winning streak of blockbusters that include Daredevil and S.W.A.T. But this streak was broken when he took the lead role in the film Alexander in 2004.
The film was heavily criticized for its historical inaccuracies. In the cinemas, it failed to gain back its investment money by taking only $155 million in the box office. However, Farrell’s made a comeback with films like Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Dumbo, and Lobster.
CHRIS O’DONNELL
Batman & Robin didn’t only affect Alicia Silverstone’s career but also Chris O’Donnell’s. O’Donnell played the role of Robin against Clooney’s Batman. Despite the cast’s star power, the film remains to be the most-hated Batman film in history.
O’Donnell hasn’t had a big break since then, probably regretting passing up Men In Black for Batman & Robin. Good thing O’Donnell had a marketing degree to fall back on.
TERRENCE HOWARD
It’s easy to forget that Terrence Howard was ever a part of the Marvel universe. He played the role of Captain Rhodes in the first Iron Man movie before it went to Don Cheadle. The Academy Award nominee was the highest-paid actor in that film but Marvel decided to cut down his payment, which led to him leaving the franchise. It was the worst investment he made in his career.
After Iron Man, Howard didn’t score any big-budget films but instead turned to the small screen and gave life to the character of Lucious Lyons of Empire.
HALLE BERRY
Halle Berry was on a roll after her Academy win in 2002 for Monster’s Ball. She’s the only African-American descent to have won the award. Berry quickly raised her credit score with projects left and right, including X-Men and Die Another Day. However, this stopped when she starred in the Batman spinoff, Catwoman, in 2004.
Despite Berry’s star power and fans, the film lacks electricity with the audience. The film only grossed $17 million on its first weekend. She was even awarded the Worst Actress Razzie Award for her performance. Berry was last seen on the big screen in John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum.
MACAULAY CARSON CULKIN
Macaulay Culkin was, to a huge degree, one of the most famous child actors in history with his work in the Home Alone series. The films have earned a place in pop-culture history and is known to be a Christmas classic.
He also played the live-action adaptation of Richie Rich. Although it was his role as Kevin McCallister that put him on the map, it also boxed Culkin in. His fame didn’t allow him to enjoy normal things like kids his age were able to at the time. He retired from acting when he was 14, although recently, he’s returned to the fold with a more mature image.
LINDSAY LOHAN
Another child actress on our list, Lindsay Lohan took the spotlight when she starred in The Parent Trap, playing two twin characters. She also made pop-culture history with the landmark film, Mean Girls.
Lohan was on the roll with Disney teen rom-coms but she changed gears and went full throttle, gas on the pedal, towards a completely different direction with I Know Who Killed Me. Her acting streak never recovered which was further affected by her drug addiction and alcohol abuse.
ELIZABETH BERKLEY
Elizabeth Berkley started her rise in the business with her roles as Jessie Spano in Saved by the Bell and Nomi Malone in Showgirls. However, her decision to be part of the NC-17 rated film, Showgirls, didn’t save her career after the cancellation of Saved by the Bell.
Her career plummeted and with her, her credit score. Similar to Berry, she was awarded a Razzie for Worst Actress and New Star. Berkley turned her attention to the silver screen with shows like CSI: Miami, The L Word, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
JANET LEIGH
Psycho is, to its credit, arguably one of the best films in history. Hitchcock’s vision was made true with the film’s scoring and fabulous performances from Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh. The iconic shower scene between the two has terrified many viewers throughout the years, with its graphic violence and beautifully delivered twist at the end.
Even Leigh was traumatized for life by the movie. In the scene, she was stabbed to death by Perkins’ character while she was showering. Since then, Leigh has vowed not to take showers–she took baths instead, with the curtains open. She said she even had nightmares about some parts of the movie long after filming ended.
